This museum exhibits the extraordinary collection of unique items that once belonged in the private collection of Calouste Gulbenkian, who died in 1955.
Inaugurated 14 years after the petrol magnate’s death, the collection includes some very rare pieces, from different time periods such as Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Islamic-Oriental art.
There is a vast collection of European paintings dating from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the century, featuring works by Lochner, Renoir, Monet, Monet, Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Rodin amongst others.
