Madalena Church:
On the hill that rises up to the S. George’s Castle stands the Madalena Church, a temple that was probably built before 1164 and which burned down during the siege of the city by the castillians in 1372. It then underwent various restorations.
The earthquake of 1755 destroyed what was considered one of the richest churches in Lisbon , though it still features many figures and images from temples that the quake destroyed completely.
It has a manueline portico, erected in 1761, and many excellent sculptured images, like a Christ Crucified and a Holy Family.
