218 years have passed since it's opening, in January the 7th of 1782, with the name “casa das neves”, today it's the older coffee in Lisbon and gained it's the actual name in 1845.
Between the enormous number of anonymous people that had been present along the year's, some of our national figures have been pass throw it chairs, Bocage, Eça de Queirós, Cesário Verde, Columbano, Gago Coutinho, Duarte Pacheco,…never the less, the coffee remained strongly attached to one of our most famous writers, Fernando Pessoa, he have made his Office from the coffee, they say that he've paid several diners with poems, like the one he wrote in a menu and that it's hanged on a wall till today. You also can still see his table, with the cup of coffee, the cup of Portuguese liquor (aguardente) and several of his books. Today, you can sit outside in the square watching Lisbon while you've a light lunch.
